About This Spot
Stepping into The citybaranddiner on Netherkirkgate feels like settling into a relaxed, welcoming neighborhood spot where the hum of quiet conversations blends with the gentle clink of glasses and cutlery. It’s a place where the pace slows just enough to savor the moment—whether that’s your first coffee of the day or an evening unwinding with familiar flavors and friendly faces.
The atmosphere strikes a balance between approachable comfort and a quietly confident buzz, inviting you to linger without rush. It’s the kind of bistro-bar where both regulars and newcomers feel equally at home. Soft lighting and attentive, thoughtful service create a space attuned to sharing small human moments, shaping an experience that’s as much about connection as it is about the food.
The menu reflects this spirit of approachable creativity, with dishes that nod to classic comfort while embracing a fresh twist. Whether it’s a perfectly brewed coffee to start your morning or a hearty burger paired with crispy onion rings, there’s an easygoing appeal to the offerings. The kitchen doesn’t just serve food; it sets a scene where familiar tastes find subtle new notes—Sticky Toffee Pudding brings warmth after a day’s adventures, while a carefully crafted seafood spaghetti or a Macaroni Cheese Burger offers a satisfying escape from the everyday.

It's evident in the way staff cater thoughtfully to individual needs, whether that’s accommodating a milk allergy or offering recommendations with quiet enthusiasm.

It’s a place where the small, joyful details—like a perfectly poured coffee or a shared dish of haggis balls with neeps and tatties—add up to a comforting, authentic outing.

I had my first meal here today, I will be back that's for sure. Great atmosphere, service was fab! Food is so nice. I enjoyed every piece of it. Also their coffee was so tasty I had 2 and they catered for my milk allergies and oat milk coffee it was. Such nice staff polite and helpful. Thanks City bar, see you again soon

Superbly cooked food with excellent accompanying wine in a family run establishment, off the main road but only a few steps away from it. Easy to find. Highly recommended. Relaxing dining experience.

Really Nice Diner. Considered going for a long time, but no menu online made us stay away. Covid & Flu jab today, so decided to try as only 5 mins from old John Lewis building. We were really impressed with the food, the staff & the feel of the place. The staff were friendly and helpful. The Cheese Steak sandwich was really nice. The chips had a nice crunch and fluffy on the inside. The Mac cheese burger was lovely, and the star of the show was the onion rings. They are not on the menu, but we recommend trying them. Everything was fresh and we will return soon. Update: back for Covid and flu jab. Still really good, everything fresh, service good. They just need to get their website up and running or stick the menu on current site, especially for the evening menu.

This was my first Christmas lunch of 2023. My friend had been here before but a first visit for me. Our table was booked for a Friday evening. We took advantage of the Christmas lunch deal, two courses for 24.95. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a Friday but then we were early evening. This was an excellent choice and the service was excellent also.

The food is great. Please go. Friday night and very quiet, but we had a lovely cocktail, nice bottle of wine, and delicious food. Staff are lovely.

We had an overnight stay in Aberdeen and I enjoyed vegetarian moussaka and a desert. The waitress was great, food excellent and good value.

The City Bar and Diner is fast becoming our favourite restaurant in Aberdeen. Our most recent visit was for dinner on a Friday night. The food and service was fantastic as usual. The portions are very generous and it is competitively priced. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to our next visit soon.

The City Bar & Diner, in my opinion, is one of Aberdeen’s hidden food gems. The team are absolutely lovely, but it’s not just them who make the venue exceptional. The food the kitchen team is serving up is very impressive and what I love most is the creativity of the different dishes. What you envision in your mind might not necessarily be what you get on your plate, but I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad meal there once. If you haven’t already go give it a try, I can almost bet it will be a place you’ll visit again and again.
